TANGA aka Malcolm Aiken, is a Canadian musician & producer making electronic, latin, and jazz music saturated in soundwaves from across the world. Now based in Vancouver after many years travelling and touring the globe , Malcolm has developed a sound that bridges heritage and progression, marrying spontaneous musicianship with deep, exciting sounds. The new album is “Reencarnacion” (TrebleFive Records), his most ambitious and adventurous to date, a bombastic mashup- up of tropical dance beats with heavy doses of brass, marimbas, funk and jazz.
Debuting in 2007 with the album Simmer & Serve, Tanga was formed around a collective of young musicians who cut their teeth playing salsa music while embracing jazz and pop. In 2015 they travelled to Havana, Cuba to record the follow up, the highly-acclaimed Havanaelectro.
The album was as nominated for the Western Canadian Music Awards: World Recording of the Year and the Canadian Folk Music Awards: World Group of the Year.
The full band live show has been called "powerful" (BC Musician) and "a most refreshingly contemporary expression of latin groove music" (WorldBeat International). A festival favorite, Tanga's recent performances include the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Harrison Folk Fest, Vancouver Jazz Festival and Harmony Arts.
